Several different types of poker games exist. The most popular is Texas Hold’em, which uses a deck of cards and a set of betting rules.
The highest card in your hand determines the winner. A straight flush starts with the highest value card. A joker counts as the fifth ace in certain special hands.
The smallest bet is the ante, which is usually $1 or $5. The small blind is half the ante, while the big blind is the full ante. The dealer is the last to shuffle the cards. A counterfeit card devalues a poker hand.
A pair is two cards of equal rank. It is worth noting that the highest pair is better than the lowest pair. A pair of three is better than a pair of two. In some variants, a pair of twos is better than a pair of threes.
The “backdoor flush” is achieved by hitting a needed card on the turn and river. In some cases, all four deuces count as wild cards. A five of a kind beats a straight flush.
The first player to make a bet wins the pot. This is the “minimum action” established at the start of the table. If one player makes a big bet, others are forced to fold.
A “showdown” occurs when all but one player folds. The winning player takes all the bets. During this phase, each player’s hand is revealed. The winner is the player with the best hand.
